A Media Welfare State?

Just when you thought the mainstream media would simply be left to die under its own bloated weight of lies and deceit coupled with propaganda and divisiveness that has been planted in the minds of over a generation of Americans, up comes the prospect of a federal bailout of the mainstream media.

Here is an excellent survey of the proposed intervention of the federal government into the news by way of a book written by Robert W. McChesney and John Nichols entitled ‘The Death and Life of American Journalism: The Media Revolution that Will Begin the World Again’.

Folks, if you believe that the US government is simply going to stand idly by while the alternative media takes root and begins to tell the truth about the absolute similarities between the two-party system and the mainstream media’s complicity in falsely claiming that there is a difference between the two, then think again.

‘Imagine a world of “post-corporate” newsrooms, where the state serves as the primary benefactor of the Fourth Estate. Billions flow from bureaucracies to media entities and individual journalists in the name of sustaining a “free press.” And this new media welfare state is funded by steep taxes on our mobile phones, broadband connections, and digital gadgets.

Sound Orwellian? Well, it’s the blueprint for a press takeover…’

We have been warning our readers about the dangers of the vertically-integrated, corporate mainstream media for a long time. Now that its very existence is threatened, the federal government is setting out to try to prop it up, apparently at all costs.

Get ready is all we can say. The battle for American hearts and minds is now under way…

  • Hamid Mir, “moderate” top Pakistani TV anchor, caught aiding Taliban jihadists
Many non-Muslims in Europe and America have been taken in by Hamid Mir, a self-professed “moderate.” I was on to him years ago. So was Pamela Geller. We were both lectured self-righteously about how we had to support “moderates.” And now here we are. I hate to say “I told…
  • From the Writings of David Horowitz: May 16, 2010
In the business of mothers dying, fate dealt me a better hand than it did Saul Bellow. My mother lived to a ripe age and was vigorous to the end. When she had her first stroke my children were already adults, and had given me two grandchildren besides. I was well into the cycle of [...]
  • Decline and Fall of the UN Human Rights Council: ‘Appeasement’ of Libya – as new Council Member
The United Nations Human Rights Council, often considered the ‘Conscience of Humanity’, is unfortunately being hijacked and misused by representatives of undemocratic countries. They often appear more interested in protecting their governments from criticism than advancing the cause of human rights, condemning Israel more frequently than all 57 member states…

Pelosi distorts the Constitution, laws, and the Bible all to promote amnesty.
  • The Ben Shapiro Show is Top Notch!
I’m not a talk radio conservative in any shape or form. It’s not that I don’t recognize the talent and important of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck. Rather, it’s just not my style.
Even when I was a leftist I couldn’t get into Air America when it debuted. There’s something about the medium that [...]
  • Don’t Wake Up Keith, I’ve Got a Bet on You — Meltdown with Keith Olbermann Part 46
When not enlightening the world one post at a time (or working on my humility)  I am a business intelligence guy. I will spare you the long explanation of what a “business intelligence guy” does for a living, because your eyes would soon roll back in your head and that’s never fun unless accompanied by [...]
  • China Will Defeat Itself
Ian Bremmer, the author of The End of the Free Market, was on Thursday night’s episode of “The Daily Show.” He argued that the free market in the U.S. needed more regulation so as to better compete with China. The biggest threat to our economy, he said, was “state capitalism.”
China does not have a free [...]
  • David Horowitz Confronts Mark LeVine, Genocide Apologist, on Hannity
Hat-tip to Donald Douglas at American Power who has a must-read post on the segment.
Be sure and note how Mark LeVine has the same excuse that some of our leftist commenters have: David Horowitz provoked her into saying something that she doesn’t really mean. By “refusing to answer her question” she got frustrated. Never mind [...]

  • Government Seeks to Track Body Mass of Children

Is it prima facie Orwellian to have a bill proposed by the government called the “Healthy Choices Act”? Think about it.
Let’s just assume that it isn’t for now. Let’s instead commit to judge the creepy statism of any particular legislation by the creepy statist measure it proposes to enact.
In this case, it looks like [...]

  • More Leftist Distortions On the Arizona Immigration Law
The O’Reilly Factor last night invited two pro-immigration activists to address the overheated racial hostilities that are coming more out into the open, as the debate over what to do about illegal immigration intensifies.  Not surprisingly, they added fuel to the fire with blatant distortions of Arizona’s new immigration law.

More trouble ahead. “Are Sadr militias rearming in Iraq’s south?” by Jane Arraf for the Christian Science Monitor, May 12: Baghdad – A senior US general said forces loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr are rising again in Iraq’s south, engaging in intimidation, extortion, and political violence as politicians in…
  • Spencer: Theology for a Holocaust
In FrontPage for Friday I discuss the recent endorsement of genocide by a Muslim student at UCSD: UC-San Diego student Jumanah Imad Albahri last week, under questioning from David Horowitz, refused to condemn Hamas and Hizballah and endorsed a genocidal statement by Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Many were shocked. Albahri’s…

  • From the Writings of David Horowitz: May 13, 2010
Following the liberation of Baghdad, historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. wrote, “President George W. Bush has made a fatal change in the foreign policy of the United States. He has repudiated the strategy that won the Cold War—the combination of containment and deterrence … The Bush Doctrine reverses all that. The essence of our new strategy [...]
  • Willful Blindness: Naive Catholic Graduate Student Defends Nazi Girl
Tuesday we received the following comment from Anita Casavantes Bradford, a graduate student at UC San Diego, in response to Jumanah Imad Albahri’s admission that she supported the extermination of the Jewish people:
This girl is actually my student; I know her to be an intelligent, moral young woman who believes in peace. I do [...]
  • North Korean plane intercepted last year was carrying weapons to Hizballah and Hamas
Another care package to jihadists from Dear Leader. Unsurprisingly, “35 tonnes of weapons, including rockets and rocket-propelled grenades” seem to have a way of smoothing over the general, blazing shirk of the “Juche” ideology. “North Korea arms plane ‘bound for Hezbollah’,” by James Hider for the Times Online, May 13:…
  • Typical: Obama administration preparing to join U.N. group previously shunned for anti-West agenda
This report doesn’t say much about the nature of the group, the “Alliance of Civilizations.” This description by the great Bat Ye’or, from this article by Pamela Geller is a good starting point: The Alliance of Civilizations, created to oppose the clash of civilizations, that is jihad, has also added…

  • UNC seems to think Muslim professor’s defamation is just “disagreement”
Omid Safi is a professor at the University of North Carolina. He is also a liar who has defamed me, in a manner that is strongly reminiscent of the vicious libels that jihadists and their allies in the West routinely retail against those who oppose the jihad and Islamic supremacism….
  • From the Writings of David Horowitz: May 12, 2010
On November 11, 2003, [George] Soros again vowed to drive Bush from office. His language was inflammatory, verging on hysteria. “America under Bush is a danger to the world,” Soros declared. Ousting Bush, he told The Washington Post, “is the central focus of my life … a matter of life and death.” [...]
  • Spencer: Times Square Jihad? What Jihad?
Yesterday in Human Events I discussed the ongoing willful ignorance: Now that would-be Times Square car bomb jihadist Faisal Shahzad has been exposed as an Islamic jihadist, the liberal media are searching for an explanation, any explanation, for his attempted attack that doesn’t involve Islamic jihad. Shahzad himself said he…
  • Fatwa in India: Illegal for women to work, support family
Destitution before dishonor! • Yemen will not extradite al-Awlaki
Earlier, Yemeni authorities claimed al-Awlaki was “just a preacher.” Then, they said they were working on detaining him, but only waiting for U.S. to supply the necessary intelligence. Now, whatever they do, if and when they feel like getting around to capturing him, he’ll supposedly face trial in Yemen. That…

  • NRB Book Club: Preview of David Forsmark’s Upcoming FPM Review of Falcon 7
Since James W. Huston’s thrillers are uniformly so good, it’s hard to say if Falcon 7 is his best– but it’s certainly his most incendiary since his Balance of Power proposed how Congress could bypass a pacifist President and strike back against terrorists.
In Falcon 7, Huston doesn’t bother with fictional [...]

Relax, the prime minister said “the world can now move “beyond safety and security concerns’!” Of course, India is the target audience for this display, demonstrating Pakistan’s skewed sense of priorities as jihadists continue to operate freely, and sometimes with official encouragement. “Pakistan test-fires pair of ballistic missiles,” from CNN,…
